GLP-1 receptor agonists do not increase risk of complications after emergency surgery
The risk for postoperative respiratory complications is similar among patients undergoing emergency surgery regardless of preoperative GLP-1 receptor agonist use, according to a research letter published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Dr Anjali Dixit, from Stanford University in California, and colleagues used a claims database to evaluate the risk for postoperative respiratory complications among patients with type 2 diabetes prescribed GLP-1 receptor agonists (RAs) who underwent one of 13 emergency surgeries.
