US doctors say bariatric surgery 'is as much a treatment as it is a prevention for diabetes'.
Bariatric surgery significantly decreases the conversion from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes, according to a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery this month in San Diego.
Clinicians at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, evaluated the conversion from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes following bariatric surgery versus the conversion rate seen in a non-surgical cohort.
