Desperate for cash? Specialist medical colleges are eating their young (trainees)

Junior doctors in training

Last year, one of the medical colleges introduced a $6000 fee for registrars who had successfully met the demanding standards laid down for attaining fellowship.

It was announced without undergoing any robust prior consultation with the trainees themselves – as many of us would normally expect with a membership-based and not-for-profit organisation.

The college I’m talking about is my own, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.

It’s important to make clear what is being demanded and what the consequences are for those who don’t comply.
