When it comes to treating insomnia, Australia is sleeping on the job

It is estimated that 30-40% of Australian adults experience short-term insomnia (for up to three months) and 10-15% of adults experience chronic insomnia disorder (lasting for at least three months) at any given time.
But only a handful of patients are receiving the optimal treatment.
Insomnia is more than a secondary symptom of other mental and physical health conditions.
In fact, sleeping difficulties and mental health problems are bidirectionally related.
