Pharmacist prescribing will push us into the healthcare crisis I witnessed in the UK

Dr David Carruthers.

After seven years working as a GP in Scotland, I joined many thousands of GPs fleeing the UK’s struggling health system.

I came to Australia, which promised substantially better working conditions, not to mention more sunshine, even in Melbourne.

In the UK, the demand for GPs outstrips supply such that waiting several weeks to see a doctor is not uncommon.

I still get SMS messages from the practice I attended as a patient in the UK saying they can only provide an emergency service due to lack of doctors.
