A recent AusDoc article generated much commentary about the disciplining of children and the role of physical punishment, after a GP was fined for spanking a two-year-old who was misbehaving in his surgery.

The debate immediately reminded me of an incident in which I was guilty of slapping my 18-month-old daughter across the face.
