Cryptic pregnancy a reminder to test all women of child-bearing age with symptoms: case study

A woman with obesity and PCOS who tried unsuccessfully to conceive for years did not realise she was finally pregnant until she was in labour, UK doctors report.Â
The woman, in her early 40s, had experienced nausea, amenorrhoea and reflux during the nine months but was never offered a pregnancy test by her GP, say clinicians from Leighton Hospital in Crewe.
The cryptic pregnancy served as a reminder for doctors to organise a pregnancy test for all women of reproductive age with pregnancy-like symptoms, they said.
Their patient had presented to the ED with acute-onset abdominal pain and lower back pain with vaginal bleeding.
