The AMA, policy analysts and even the politicians themselves say Medicare requires fundamental reform to respond to an ageing population with more complex needs.

Two years ago, the Minister for Health and Aged Care said: “What is clear to me is that the MBS rebate model, and Medicare funding more broadly, is not working for the disease profile the country now has: an older population with much more chronic disease.”
