In its simplest form, the Jewish circumcision ceremony known as the Bris is exactly the same today as it was 3000 years ago.

An eight-day-old baby is carried into a room by his parents and handed to a senior family member chosen for their respectability.

A blessing is read. The ritual begins.

And then a religious official reaches down, applies a clamp to stretch out the foreskin and removes it with a scalpel.
