Trust in science and government eroded by pandemic response, says official COVID-19 report

The official report on Australia’s COVID-19 response says the initial high level of adherence and co-operation is unlikely to repeat in a future health emergency.
Running to 670 pages, it suggests that trust in both governments and science has eroded and that future governments should “share more of the evidence and advice that informs key decisions”.
Among the recommendations is a permanent and independent Centre for Disease Control (CDC).
The current Federal Government says this will be established in 2026 in Canberra with $251 million in funding over four years.
