Dr Mohammed Mustafa’s medical mission to Gaza became so dangerous that the aid organisation that sent him prepared for the unthinkable — and drafted a media release in the event of his death.

The trainee emergency physician, who survived five weeks working at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, had arrived a few days before the fragile ceasefire was shattered by Israeli airstrikes on 18 March.
