The federal budget is tonight — here’s what the GP groups want

Tonight, Treasurer Jim Chalmers hands down his third budget — counting his initial mini-budget in October 2022 — with the knowledge that a federal election is probably just 12 months away or even less.
The budget headline in 2023 was the $3.5 billion to triple GP bulk-billing incentives.
While it is unlikely that 2024 will bring back-to-back GP funding on that level, the RACGP, RDAA and AMA have their wish lists ready for the Treasurer’s consideration.
The RACGP wants another $3 billion in investments, including a 20% rebate boost for level C, level D and mental health consultations.
