TGA warns of sudden cardiac death risk with azithromycin
Four cardiac deaths over 18 years were potentially associated with the drug, the TGA says.
The TGA has slapped safety warnings on azithromycin over a very rare risk of acute cardiovascular death, particularly within the first five days of use.
The regulator advised doctors to consider precautionary ECG screening in patients at high risk of prolonged QT and to balance the benefits and risks when prescribing.
