Supreme Court judgement limits boards’ powers to pause investigations, says AHPRA’s top lawyer

AHPRA's general counsel said a case involving a psychologist had put new responsibilities on all 15 national boards.

Health practitioner boards have limited powers to delay decisions indefinitely after receiving a finalised investigation report, based on a recent case, says AHPRA’s general counsel.

Dr Jamie Orchard (PhD) told attendees at the Medico Legal Congress in March that he had warned the 15 boards of their responsibility either to take no action or pursue disciplinary proceedings after receiving an investigation report.
