Question marks over govt’s ‘doctor every hour’ bid to fix workforce crisis
Thousands of new medical practitioners have been added to the books, but what about those leaving practice?
More than 8300 doctors have been added to the medical register in just 12 months amid the scramble to fix the country’s workforce crisis.
Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler released the figures earlier this month, saying they revealed the most new doctors added to the register in more than a decade — the equivalent of bringing in one new doctor every hour.
