Nurse prescribing of S4 and S8 drugs to start in 2025 but will not be ‘open slather’

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia says it will provide details on the postgraduate training requirements in March.

Nurses have received the green light to prescribe ‘in partnership’ with doctors or nurse practitioners from mid-2025, including S8 drugs for cancer and palliative care.

After a decade of trying to secure nurse prescribing powers, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia officially won over state, territory and federal health ministers last week.
