‘No evidence’ behind $8 billion rorts claim, but Mark Butler’s hunt continues
An official review has found no evidence to support the claim that inappropriate billing costs Medicare $8 billion a year, the Minister for Health says.
The review, done internally by the Department of Health and Aged Care, was a response to a string of media articles quoting Dr Margaret Faux (PhD), who said roughly 30% of the Medicare budget was being lost to fraud, over-servicing and billing errors.
