Asking patients about their pets is not usually part of medical history taking, but it may have benefited this US patient who presented with gradual vision loss in his left eye.

Doctors at the University of Texas have described the case of the otherwise healthy man who reported a 2.5-week history of headache, fevers, night sweats and painless vision loss.

The 47-year-old had no significant past medical history except for recent SARS-CoV-2 infection.

A month after his COVID-19 bout, he continued to report fevers and headaches, which his GP suggested could be due to long COVID.
