Myocarditis associated with COVID-19 vaccination mainly affects men aged 24 or younger and tends to be mild, according to the largest case series reported in Australia.
The study of more than 200 confirmed cases of vaccine-associated myocarditis within 14 days of administration found the median hospital stay was two days.
In comparison, a US study of acute myocarditis cases reported hospital stays exceeding a week.
The Australian study, using cases reported to Victoria’s Surveillance of Adverse Events Following Vaccination in the Community service up to September 2022, found that vaccine-linked myocarditis tended to be milder than other myocarditis types.
