Moving from Sydney to a town of 1900 people ‘opens your eyes to the depth of general practice’

Dr Blake Kelly wanted to be a surgeon, but his time in North Queensland helped persuade him to choose general practice instead.

Going from the University of Sydney medical school to Cairns may seem like a leap for some doctors.

But GP registrar couple Dr Blake Kelly and Dr Annaleice Rose followed up by moving to Mossman for their specialist training.

Unlike the similarly-named Sydney suburb, Mossman in Far North Queensland has a population of just 1935.

Because they are training rurally, the pair are eligible for RACGP incentives worth up to $15,000 next year.
