Following a Mediterranean diet along with omega-3 fatty acid supplements reduces skin lesions in patients with acne, according to a small German study.

Over four months, 60 participants with acne and without prescription medication (23 with acne comedonica and 37 with acne papulopustulosa) adhered to a Mediterranean diet, incorporating omega-3 fatty acid supplementation.

The authors were examining the clinical effects associated with increasing eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)/docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels in patients with acne.

They found that 98% of patients had an EPA/DHA deficit at baseline.
