Endometriosis was the unlikely cause of this 40-year-old’s bowel obstruction, despite the patient reporting no other endometriosis symptoms until she presented to ED.

The nulliparous patient presented with a five-day history of abdominal pain and spurious diarrhoea, as well as multiple episodes of vomiting and inability to tolerate oral intake.

She was still able to pass stool and flatus, according to doctors at Al Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

The first two times she presented with the complaints, she was “unfortunately misdiagnosed with a UTI as she kept improving on symptomatic treatment during her stay”, the doctors said.
