KFP exam changing to multiple-choice as young doctors report ‘handwriting fatigue’

While doctors’ writing remains the butt of jokes, a broader generational shift against handwriting appears underway.

The RACGP will remove short-answer questions from its Key Feature Problem fellowship exam after registrars criticised the perceived demands of having to handwrite full-sentence responses.

The new Key Feature Problem (KFP) exam starting in July 2025 will involve 70 medical scenarios, with one multiple-choice question per scenario.
