Incentives for GP bulk-billing in line for major boost as Government draws up battle plan for looming election

Another boost to bulk-billing incentives could be on the horizon if Labor wins the upcoming election.

Lifting the incentive paid to GPs would likely be among a raft of health promises soon to be unveiled as part of a campaign pitch focused on its Strengthening Medicare reforms, according to government sources quoted in The Sydney Morning Herald.

Although he would not be drawn on any details, federal Health Minister Mark Butler told reporters last week: “There’s more we want to do to deliver — more doctors, more bulk-billing and more urgent care.”

Any pledge to lift incentives comes after the Labor Government’s $3.5 billion investment in bulk-billing in 2023, tripling the incentive for concession card holders and children under 16.
