IMGs now on Australia’s priority visa list

But the Federal Government still intends to reduce the annual intake of IMGs over the coming years

Visa applications for IMGs will be fast-tracked after the Federal Government declared general practice a “priority occupation”.

Last month, the Department of Home Affairs published a list of 17 occupations deemed critical to Australia’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Among the 11 healthcare professions included are general practitioners as well as psychiatrists and registered nurses.

As a result, overseas-trained specialist GPs will have their visa applications expedited rather than having to wait up to three months for an approval.
