How to predict physical illness in mental health patients

Aussie researchers have developed an interactive tool that GPs can use to asses patients

Patients with certain mental health disorders are more likely to experience certain physical illnesses â€” and now doctors can explore such links in detail using a new interactive tool.

University of Queensland researchers have created a website to map the associations between nine disease categories and 10 mental health conditions.

Doctors can examine the relative and absolute risks of physical conditions and mental health disorders depending on sex, types of mental disorder, age of mental disorder diagnosis and time since diagnosis.

For example, the website shows that women with anxiety disorders have a 50% increased risk of developing a cardiac condition or stroke over 15 years.
