Higher carotid plaque burden seen with persistent asthma: study

Higher carotid plaque burden and higher levels of inflammatory biomarkers are seen among patients with persistent asthma versus those without asthma, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
Dr Matthew Tattersall from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, and colleagues examined the association of persistent asthma with carotid plaque burden among Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis-enrolled adults free of known atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease at baseline.
