Guild’s worst fears come true: Watchdog green-lights pharmacy super-corporate

Sigma Health and Chemist Warehouse signed up to legally binding terms to protect competition, appeasing the ACCC.

Chemist Warehouse and pharmacy wholesaler Sigma Healthcare are free to merge after persuading the competition watchdog that the resultant $9 billion ASX corporate giant would not crush smaller pharmacies.

Sigma, which also owns the Amcal and Discount Drug Store pharmacies, made a 2023 offer to buy Chemist Warehouse in exchange for Sigma shares and $700 million.
