GP practice asks patients to pay a $3 fee to cover its looming payroll tax bill
A general practice has been charging a $3 levy on each consult to cover its looming payroll tax bill.
East Canberra General Practice has placed posters in its waiting room and a notice on its website, explaining it was imposing the $3 levy on patients as it was “unable to absorb this new tax”.
“We regret having to impose an additional cost burden onto the cost of healthcare for our patients,” the notice on the practice’s website states.
“If the ACT Government changes its mind about the tax, we will stop the payroll tax levy.”
