GP conference in NZ called off over coronavirus

More than 1000 GPs expected to attend WONCA meet, but they're key to medical response

GPs in New Zealand will be needed at work rather than attending a major regional conference planned for April in Auckland.

Subsequently, it has been postponed, owing to uncertainty over the fallout of COVID-19.

The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners’ president Dr Samantha Murton said rescheduling the World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA) Asia-Pacific 2020 conference is the right thing to do “given the unusual times we are in”.

“The college needs to act wisely and ensure our GPs and other primary care professionals, who are the key to medical care in the community, remain available where they’re needed most,” Dr Murton said in a statement on the WONCA Asia Pacific Regional conference website.
