All vaping products will become prescription medicines under sweeping reforms planned for next week’s federal budget.

Doctors will also be able to prescribe unapproved vaping products more easily, as the government offers all doctors access to a streamlined TGA application process, which until now been limited to around 1600 ‘Authorised Prescribers’.

Announcing the changes on Tuesday, Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler said companies that imported vapes would have to prove their products were destined for pharmacy shelves.

They would also face stricter quality standards including restrictions on colouring, flavours and packaging.
