Federal Health Department answers questions on COVID-19 and patients with disabilities

GPs are being urged to offer more time to patients with disabilities who have struggled with social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Professor Nick Lennox, senior medical advisor on disability and health at the Federal Department of Health, said many patients need more time with their GP whose advice could help reduce their anxiety.
“They’ve heard that they’re at increased risk, particularly people with Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy or with respiratory and chronic diseases,” he said in the department’s latest webinar.
He also urged GPs to consider providing specific advice for families of children about to restart school who may be at significant risk of infection.
