ECGs for patients in dramatic decline after GP rebate was cut to $16

The RACGP says the Federal Government should let GPs access a better paid MBS item for ECG tracing and recording “effective immediately” to close the four-year saga of funding cuts.
The AMA has gone further, saying the government should “urgently” boost MBS item 11714 from $23.50 to $30 when it restores GP access.
Both groups were responding to an MBS Continuous Review draft report that has recommended letting GPs access item 11714, after their funding for ECGs was effectively cut to a rebate of around $16 in 2020.
“The RACGP calls for the restoration of patient Medicare rebates for GPs interpreting ECGs without further delay,” its submission said.
