Doctor found guilty of making ‘bad faith’ complaints to AHPRA

A doctor who made false complaints to AHPRA about a colleague, including that he had caused a patient’s death by suicide, has been found guilty of professional misconduct.
The subject of the complaints, a locum doctor, was forced out of work temporarily after the Medical Board of Australia placed strict supervision conditions on his registration while investigating.
The locum doctor had been in charge of the Queensland hospital where the complainant worked, covering for another doctor on long service leave, the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal heard.
He said became worried about the quantity of opioids and benzodiazepines being prescribed to patients, and raised his concerns with the Office of the Health Ombudsman.
