Women successfully treated for breast cancer may not need the current intensive mammographic surveillance follow-up recommended in many countries including Australia, researchers say.

A UK team has conducted the first randomised trial of its kind and found that, among 5000 former breast cancer patients aged 50 and older, less frequent mammograms had non-inferior outcomes compared with annual mammograms.
