Can a crack squad of GPs on govt salaries fix this state’s workforce woes?

Salaries of almost $300,000 on offer to join State Government rapid response team.

GPs who join the Tasmanian Government’s rapid response team to parachute into practices that need help will be paid $210,000-$288,000 as a base salary, according to job advertisements.

The GP NOW Rapid Response Team will include 10 GPs, deployed “at a moment’s notice”, to provide crisis support wherever practices are struggling.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government revealed the policy in March as part of a successful re-election campaign, and opened job applications this month.

“GP NOW will provide support in ‘thin market’ areas where existing private general practice is experiencing challenges,” a Department of Health and Aged Care spokesperson told AusDoc.
