Aussie researchers warn that fall in CVD death rate is stalling

In some countries, there's even been an increase in CVD mortality, Melbourne authors say

Gains in reducing deaths  from cardiovascular disease over the last 50 years are stalling, Melbourne researchers warn, adding that rates could reverse unless public health action is taken.

They say significant public health efforts to get people moving, improve diet and reduce obesity are now required.

Their alert comes in their new study of WHO data that shows since 2000 CVD mortality gains have stalled in many high-income countries, including Australia.

They found CVD mortality rates for people aged 35-74 were now barely declining.
