AMA wants ban on dentists calling themselves oral surgeons
Only those with medical qualifications should be allowed to use the term 'surgeon', a submission argues.
The AMA has another “misleading and confusing” professional title in its sights, demanding a ban on dentists calling themselves ‘oral surgeons’.
There are some 66 dentists currently using the term, and although they have additional qualifications, they are not registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
