AMA urges medical board to ditch any push for mandatory cognitive testing of older doctors

It says it should be left to the doctor's GP to decide if it is necessary.

The AMA has called on the Medical Board of Australia to ditch any demand for mandatory cognitive screening of late-career doctors as part of its plan for health checks.

The board argues that the increased rate of notifications for doctors aged 70 and over — 81% higher than those under 70 — justifies the introduction of health assessments as a condition of their registration.
