The new consensus statement advises that shorter treatment duration may be appropriate in certain cases.

Buruli ulcer should be a nationally notifiable disease amid increasing cases and spread to non-endemic parts of Australia, according to the authors of new management guidelines.

A record 362 cases were documented in Victoria in 2023 and local transmission had recently been reported in southern NSW, said the team, led by doctors at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity at the University of Melbourne.
