85% of GPs say Seniors Health Cards are not a reliable indicator of bulk-billing hardship

Mark Butler will struggle to fulfil his promise of bulk-billed care for an extra 44,000 older Australians with concession cards, suggests an AusDoc survey of 500 GPs.

The Minister for Health and Aged Care raised the single-income threshold for the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card earlier this month by 56% — from $57,761 per annum to $90,000 — saying it would “improve the cost of seeing a GP” for newly eligible patients.
