$500k salaries and rent-free practices on offer in towns desperate for a GP

In a specialty filled with intractable problems, the one Dr Rob Bond had to grapple with was how to lure solo GPs to small rural towns.
A solo GP himself in Lockhart, a NSW town with a population of around 1000, the local council asked Dr Bond to open GP services in Culcairn, 75km away.
Culcairn (population roughly 1500) had not had a full-time GP in two years, after long-time GP Dr Jan Reddy retired after 46 years of practice.
While he made weekly trips to Culcairn to treat patients himself, Dr Bond negotiated with the council to offer free housing to prospective GPs for at least a year, then a 70% discount on the market rate of rent thereafter.
