The Federal Government’s long-promised offer of $25,000-$50,000 grants for GP practices is finally rolling out.

The one-off payments are for practices to fund health IT upgrades, infection control measures or to help them meet accreditation, with the cash for accredited practice based on their full-time equivalent GP count.

Unaccredited practices are eligible, but only if they can show they could achieve accreditation if they applied after the grants are doled out, and will be limited to $25,000 payments regardless of GP count.

Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler said primary health networks would contact each practice to provide them with application paperwork by the end of April at the latest, with the total government investment predicted to be $220 million.
