Even more ‘areas of need’ approved for IMG GP recruitment but doctors say the system is failing

The Federal Government is expanding distribution priority areas yet again, with 17 areas including Surfers Paradise and Noosa in Queensland permitted to recruit IMGs who can bill Medicare.

In addition, Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler has reclassified another 17 areas as more remote, as part of what he is calling a “no losers” update to distribution priority area (DPA) and Modified Monash Model (MMM) classifications.
