Medical Must-See: Young girl’s extremely rare tumour stuns doctors

The giant-cell tumour was treated with curettage, ipsilateral fibular graft and synthetic bone graft.

Giant-cell tumours are typically found in skeletally mature patients aged 20-40, but doctors in Indonesia have reported an “extremely rare” case in a young girl.

The seven-year-old presented to hospital with a two-month history of pain and swelling in her right distal radius.

The swelling had grown progressively after the first month, but no instance of trauma could be identified.

The initial clinical examination revealed diffused swelling on the distal forearm — which was tender and soft in consistency — while the overlying skin had “a patchy brownish pigmentation”.
