Medical Must-See: Rastafarian ‘tack shake’ screws with patient’s bowel

Multiple screws and nails were found in a US woman’s cecum.

Smoothies and shakes with purported health benefits are a dime a dozen, but US doctors have discovered an ‘antidepressant’ concoction containing nails and screws that left one unfortunate woman hospitalised.

The 45-year-old patient presented to the Brooke Army Medical Centre in Texas with acute non-localised abdominal pain and nausea.

“She reported visiting her Rastafarian, who made her a ‘tack shake’ to help with her anxiety and depression,” the doctors wrote in Cureus.

The woman, who had a significant psychiatric history, reportedly drank the mixture the day before she presented to ED.
