Medical Must-See: Electrical accident causes vocal cord palsy
A man’s sore throat after he was electrocuted was the first sign he had a unique case of unilateral vocal cord paralysis, according to his treating otolaryngologists.
The previously healthy 35-year-old arrived at an ED in Rishikesh, India, shortly after he was trapped on a metallic bridge struck by a high voltage wire.
His left arm was scorched by the electrical current and he lost consciousness before arriving at the medical centre, where he was resuscitated and treated for burn injuries.
“He acquired a third-degree asymmetrical burn on the lateral aspect of his left arm, accounting for approximately 2% of his body surface area,” his doctors wrote in Cureus.
