Is a bump in the night the culprit?

An otherwise well elderly woman presents to the GP with a mysterious bleeding lesion on her scalp

Nancy is a 73-year-old Asian woman who presents for review of a pigmented lesion on her scalp for 1-2 months.

She initially thought this was irritation from using hair dye, but is now concerned that it has started bleeding and staining her pillowcase at night.

She thinks she may have bumped her head against her wooden headrest during the night, but can’t recall a specific injury.

Nancy is taking aspirin for primary prevention of CVD, on a background of well-controlled diabetes and hypercholesterolaemia, for which she takes metformin and a statin.
